Michael is an associate at Pabian & Russell, LLC concentrating in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, trust administration, and estate tax planning. He works with individuals and families to understand their personal and financial objectives and counsels clients to address each of their unique needs. He has experience drafting estate planning documents for taxable and non-taxable estates, including wills, trusts, and other agreements. He also has experience representing clients in the administration of their loved one’s estate, from completing the requisite probate forms to the preparation and filing of estate and fiduciary income tax returns, including multiple estates with assets in excess of $10 million.
Further, Michael has worked with clients using income tax techniques, such as gifting qualified small business stock to multiple non-grantor irrevocable trusts to maximize the capital gain exclusion under IRC Section 1202. He also advises clients on complex income tax matters, including U.S. beneficiaries of foreign trusts on becoming compliant with U.S. tax authorities as well as families on cross-border estate planning.
Prior to joining Pabian & Russell, Michael worked at a boutique law firm in Newton, where he practiced in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration, income tax planning and preparation, real estate, and business law matters. He also previously served for a year as a corps member in City Year Boston – an education-focused nonprofit organization serving children in high-poverty communities.
Michael earned his Master of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, where he also completed the Estate Planning certificate program. He received his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Indiana University.
Outside of the office, Michael enjoys cooking, watching movies, and traveling; especially when it is to see family.
