Robert M. Russell, Jr. is a managing partner at Pabian & Russell, LLC, concentrating in the areas of corporate and business law, estate planning, business succession planning, tax law and probate law. Bob, who is also a certified public accountant, has been involved in advising high net worth individuals and closely-held businesses in a variety of estate, succession, tax, and business related matters. Bob’s corporate and business practice includes representation of emerging and established businesses in all areas including business formation, bank and capital financing, mergers and acquisitions, real estate purchases, sales and leasing, as well as distribution and joint venture agreements. He also advises clients in shareholder issues, including buy-sell agreements, equity compensation arrangements, shareholder disputes and succession planning. Bob’s unique legal and financial background provides a valuable perspective when analyzing the income, estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax consequences of estate and succession plans for his clients. He has extensive experience utilizing sophisticated estate and tax-planning techniques, including irrevocable life insurance trusts, qualified personal residence trusts (QPRTs), grantor-retained annuity trusts (GRATs), family limited partnerships (FLPs) and intra-family sales. For his philanthropic clients, Bob has experience in assisting them to achieve their charitable goals and maximize the tax planning opportunities presented by charitable giving through the creation of charitable lead trusts, charitable remainder trusts and private foundations.
Bob has been named to the 2008, 2009, and 2010 Massachusetts Super Lawyers® list by Law & Politics and New England Super Lawyers, a distinction given to only the top 5% of attorneys in Massachusetts. Prior to entering private practice, Bob was a Senior Financial Analyst with Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. Bob received his Juris Doctor in 1990, cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School and a Bachelor in Business Administration degree, cum laude, in accounting from University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1981. Bob is admitted to practice before the bars of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States District Court, the First Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Tax Court. He also is a member of the Boston Bar Association, the Boston Estate Planning Council and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
